History

Grande Prairie Livestock Market has been an established landmark in the Peace Country since opening its doors in August of 1957. The auction has been bringing buyers and sellers together on a weekly basis while building a reputation on honest service. Roy Tink founded Grande Prairie Auction Mart. He was joined later by sons Bryan and Dennis, and still later by grandson Kevin Tink.

In 1988, Bryan, Dennis and Kevin split the machinery, equipment, and farm sales into a new company called All Peace Auctions.

The Livestock division was sold to Nilsson Brothers Inc. in September of 1990. Lorne Gilfillan and sons Marty & Murray were appointed managers of the new company called “Grande Prairie Livestock Market Ltd. “

Lorne retired from management in 1993 to run a cow/calf operation. Marty and Murray stayed on to manage the day to day operations. After a courageous battle with cancer, Murray passed away in June 2002.

The facilities have been continuously improved to provide expanded feed pens, better flow of cattle, and a holding capacity of over 3000 head. A complete processing service is also available for all classes of cattle.

Currently 85 to 90 sales are held per year, including special calf, stock cow, breeding bull, horse, and pre-sorted calf sales in the fall.

The Livestock Market offers on – farm appraisals, farm gate direct marketing, purebred sales, forward contracting, and the latest, most modern marketing tools in the livestock industry.
